GINGER TREE
I know she’s gonna’ run away
And I know what she’s gonna’ say
“Bury me by the tree”
All these things have come to pass, and I have learned to let them pass. Stories of the truth be told by honest men from days of old.
I know what they’re hearts do tell
And I know of certain things in hell
Bury me by the tree
And like a twig of ginger snaps, the love inside will make her crack. And eyes will melt and pour on down to saturate the sacred ground.
I know how it feels to die slowly, bit-by-bit, each and every fucking night.
Bury me by the tree
YOU ALIVE
And of all the things that dreams are made of, you tend to dwell on this one most. You never listen when they tell you; on their whispered words of worry your sailboat coasts.
You heed no mind at loved ones’ wishes; their words of warning only make you stronger, and anyone who dares to touch you always ends up getting burned.
You cannot live this life forever; I know you love the clouds that keep you high above the others – that keep you singled out in crowds. But as the sky fades to gray, the clouds must rain themselves away; and as you fall, as you dive, only then will you feel alive.
I KNOW
You seem to think you know my dreams, and you claim that you know me. Well if that’s true, and you love me the way you say you do, how come you’re never there when I need you?
I know I know the way you play your games
I know I know you like to cause the pain
I know I know you’re bored without the drama
I know I know that I don’t wanna’…
…continue being this way; you playing off of everything that I say. Acting like it doesn’t faze you – I think you wanted it to make me hate you.
I know I know the way you play your games
I know I know you like to cause the pain
I know I know you’re bored without the drama
I know I know that I don’t wanna’…
THE SORROW STOMP
You should know what’s going on. It has gone on for far too long. Now everyone you know gets hurt, and I’m not keen on the taste of dirt.
The sun to me doth not feel warm, nor the touch of breast feel home. My brain cannot accommodate this mass demise and planned debate.
And if you don’t bring this to rest, then she won’t realize what is best. And your life will stay the lie, and your sadness will make her cry.
I think you know how this will end, and I’m sorry dear old friend, but I just can’t participate in any part – at any rate.
And if you don’t bring this to rest, then she won’t realize what is best. And your life will stay the lie, and your sadness will make her cry.
FLAW
Don’t you say anything about what you don’t know anything about. It’s not my fault I was born this way, so there’s not a damn thing for you to say.
They think they know what pain is; I think you think the way they do. Buddy, you haven’t the slightest clue what the act of death can put you through.
Now I’m going to leave. Please forget what you saw, and never speak again, any words about my flaw.
ARROGANT LETHARGY
It’s a cold day in my mind. My life’s all frozen up in time. My heart beats strongly in my ears while I continue to sleep away my years.
You know you’re running low on time to make a dream turn out just fine; to live a life not on borrowed time, and see it through tonight.
I have ambitions, so do you… what makes you think that your ideas are new?
You know you’re running low on time to make a dream turn out just fine; to live a life not on borrowed time, and see it through tonight.
STREET CLOWN
Paint my face the color of your heart; don’t drain your blood, it wouldn’t be too smart. I’m with you. Don’t raise your hand in anger – it wouldn’t be like you; you don’t have to do what other people tell you. I’m with you. Paint my face the color of your soul; it’s dark purple, or so I’m told. I’m with you… where are you?
RUN AWAY
Get out of your bed in the middle of the night, put on some clothes; climb out your window. Run away, it’ll be alright; run away, it’ll be okay. Pack your bags the night before – don’t forget your toothbrush. Run away it’ll be alright; run away, it’ll be okay. Meet up with your friends about a half-past one; go towards the railroad tracks… gonna’ have some fun. Hear a train coming from a distance; running fast, trying to escape it. Man, you got your foot caught between the rails, man you got your foot caught between the spikes! Run away, it’ll be alright; run away it’ll be okay. Run away… it’ll be okay.
MISSION TO MARS
Do you know you have a friend? Don’t you think that it’s the end. We’re all here to lend a hand; you don’t need to listen to the words of the man.
You don’t have to go back to that place you were before. You are not that person who you used to be. We all helped you out and now we’re here once again, you don’t have to go back… you don’t have to be there again.
All those times before when you were lying in your bed, all the pain you had; all the visions in your head. We never thought you would heal; still you have your scars. You don’t need to go back on your mission to mars.
You don’t have to go back to that place you were before. You are not that person who you used to be. We all helped you out and now we’re here once again, you don’t have to go back… you don’t have to be there again.
KINGS WITHOUT QUEENS
In my dreams you came to me and told me everything’s okay. When I woke up the next day, I felt that way.
If only life and love could be the same, if only hearts could feel no pain. And all I want are these things for you. And all I want is to feel them too, and teach it to the whole world with you.
But these are things that are meant for dreams, apparently, I see the kings who have no queens. And I can see the sadness that it brings, and they sing:
If only life and love could be the same, if only hearts could feel no pain. And all I want are these things for you. And all I want is to feel them too, and teach it to the whole wide world with you.
HIDDEN ENEMY
I have seen this all before, and I don’t wanna’ see it anymore – mistrust of judgment lead to loss and inability to just shut up and do your job.
The pen you hold now is your enemy; those things you write sound like sin to me, and all those girls you gave the money to… they didn’t want to, they didn’t want you!
And as the curtain begins descent, it finally hits you – where your life went. You try to stop it but it’s too far gone, and all that’s left for you to do is sing your sad, sad, sad song.
It’s time to open up your eyes and see the days of messed-up ways. You stand up straight and naked, holding yourself; trembling in fear.
HAVE DUCK TEA
Thought you should know that I watched you go down the road that night
Around the curve I watched you swerve, headed straight for the light
I ran so fast I thought I would die
I felt like a racecar; felt like I could fly
They came down and lifted you up from the ground
A space-aged sound; intelligent life they had found
You have gone now, been taken away from me
You have gone now, been taken away from me
And now you won’t come down to meet me back on the ground
Now you won’t come down and meet me here on the ground
Won’t come back down and meet me here on the ground
NO REST FOR HEROES
They make no sound when they come through windows
Most times you can’t tell they’re there
They sneak up on you like the plague on a nation
That’s full of fear
There is no rest for the heroes
There is no safe place to dwell
Our children can tell stories to their grandchildren
Of what it was like to live in hell
And now we all bow together
And hope for a better way
Can we all work together
And live for another day
And now we know how it is
And now we know how it is
And now we know how it is
And now we know what the future holds
They all know how it is
There’s no rest for the heroes
